442s for North Wales

28th November 2016

This story is now running at WalesOnLine:

Old Gatwick Express trains could be used to relieve overcrowding in Wales

There is an informed comment on WRXGEN site.

The plan is to remove the power car and you then have a 4 coach push pull set with a Class 67 at one end.

The  idea is to have a cascade so as to release 150's for the Valleys because of overcrowding.

Interesting option............how long will it take - are the 67s up to it?

With rolling stock cascades now unlikely, in the short/medium term, following the failure to complete the Great Western Electrification scheme perhaps this is a possibility.

The idea to use Class 442 stock was originally included in the franchise bid documents for "Northern".

What do you want for Christmas a 442?  Watch this space!
