Castle Park Semaphore Signal Unveiling

1st June 2019

30 years of campaigning officially came to an end today on Saturday 1st June as two semaphore signals were unveiled in Castle Park Frodsham to mark the opening of the Halton Curve and services returning to Liverpool after over 40 years. The signals were rescued from Frodsham Junction just before upgrade work started on the Curve and have been beautifully restored.

The project, a joint venture between CWaC, Frodsham town Council and NCRUG who have now also secured funding for the project was well attended today by the public and was also supported by Llangollen Railway, North Cheshire CRP and many other organisations who attended the event.

The cake cutting to officially open the Halton Curve was performed by our first Chairman Rosemary Heeley who launched the campaign 29 years ago and our Current Chairman Mark Warren with the cake being supplied by our local baker, Devonshire Bakery at Frodsham.

The project at Castle Park will eventually see information boards installed detailed the areas rich railway history. A fitting tribute to all involved in getting those services back to Liverpool.
As for how the new Liverpool service is performing. Well early indications suggest its performing very well indeed with some late night services already being doubled to 4 cars.
Thank you to everyone who has supported NCRUG and its campaign over the last 29 years to reopen the Halton Curve. The work doesn't stop here and we look forward to celebrating our 30th Anniversary next year.

Many Thanks to Sally Buttifant and Andrew Woolmington for the photo's
