The Halton Curve

19th May 2019

On Sunday 19th May the day arrived that NCRUG had been campaigning for close on 30 years ....

The Re-opening of the Halton Curve and the return of our Liverpool service for the first time since 5th May 1975.

Transport for Wales officially launched the service one day later on the Monday 20th May 2019 at Wrexham station with the first through train to Liverpool.

Early indications suggest that the service is being well received with many passengers taking advantage of the new route including those now taking the train to work and day trippers taking advantage of the new hourly service to Liverpool.

Also starting on Monday the 20th May was Northern's direct service to Leeds making the North Cheshire Line an incredibly busy route again.

So please take care when near the line as off peak Leeds services won’t be stopping at Helsby Frodsham or Runcorn East.

We have no doubt John Hobbs would have been incredibly proud seeing those first trains go round the Curve.

John sadly passed away before the service started but we’d like to think here at NCRUG that his sprit lives on, on all those new services round the Curve.

What an incredible legacy.

NCRUG would like to acknowledgec Ian Whitley, Charles Allen, Bob Florence, Steve Bowle and TfW for the above images.
