Great Western Electrification

10th November 2016

The Government has deferred part of the Great Western Electrification scheme.

See the link below:

http://www.railwaygazette.com/news/infrastructure/single-view/view/great-western-electrification-projects-deferred.html

With the "Northern Powerhouse" in mind what future for electrification schemes in the North West and North Wales Warrington/Chester/Crewe/Holyhead being accomplished when high profile projects such as this are deferred and buried in the news pages due to the US Presidential elections.

The deferring of the scheme will lead to rolling stock cascades not being deliverable.

This will impact on rolling stock available across the country but especially in the North West and Wales.

The current rolling stock fleet is already older than it has been at any time since privatisation.

Whilst some fleets on order can be hauled by diesel locomotives the overall journey times will not increase significantly until electrification is accomplished.

Watch out for more bad news to come!
