Halton Curve Update

10th November 2016

The latest update on progess from the Halton Curve Team at Merseytravel is as follows:

We are writing to update you on progress being made on the Halton Curve scheme. Since our last update following the Combined Authority approval in April work has progressed on closing out the GRIP 3 works which includes elements of outline design and the procurement for the delivery of the future phases.

Another key step has been taken with contracts awarded, through Network Rail, to Babcock Rail and the S&C North Alliance to undertake the detailed design and construction of the scheme.

The scheme remains on-course for physical construction to commence during Summer 2017, completion of the new infrastructure in Spring 2018 and the new passenger services to commence in December 2018.

In parallel to the delivery of the new and upgraded infrastructure Merseytravel is continuing through the process of securing an operator for the initial services over the Curve between Liverpool and Chester and future extension into Wales.

Halton Curve is part of a £340m investment in the area’s rail network over the next three years, funded by Network Rail and the Liverpool City Region through the government’s Growth Deal. It also includes projects such as new and longer platform at Liverpool Lime Street to support more frequent services and new direct services to Scotland, infrastructure work to support the introduction of new trains on to the Merseyrail network, a new station at Maghull North and a revamped Newton-le-Willows station.

It is still our intention to hold another Stakeholder Event in the future, however in the interim we will continue to provide updates as key milestones are achieved.
