Merseyrail & Network Rail advise as to future disruption and upgrades in the Liverpool City Region including the Mersey Loop Line, Halton curve and additional platforms at Liverpool Lime Street through 2017/18.
The latest Merseyrail information message includes two interesting videos as at:

shows the work intended in the Loop line and the other the mainline activity at Lime St and elsewhere including the Halton Curve (although not specifically named as such) also the two new platforms intended between the existing 7 & 8 at Lime St are indicated.
