Mid Cheshire Line Music Trains

Announcing the tenth year of Music Trains on the Mid Cheshire Line ....

The programme from Altrincham/Knutsford to Alexanders in Chester starts on Wednesday 12 April with Marts ManJazz3 on the train and the Deportees at Alexanders.

The Line starts their 2017 programme from Chester to the Golden Pheasant at Plumley on Wednesday 19 April to promote Chester Folk Festival.

On Wednesday 24 May there is another Chester to Plumley Music Train with the Deportees.

On Wednesday 14 June there are two Music Trains – one from Altrincham to Chester with Loose Change and the Terry Burgin Blues Band and one from Chester to Plumley with Nelson Peach.

Wednesday 12 April – Altrincham/Knutsford to Chester and Alexanders

Marts ManJazz3 on both trains….three musicians from Mart Rodger’s Manchester Jazz....the jazz sounds of New Orleans, and Chicago….and British revivalist jazz of the 1940s and 1950s. The Deportees are playing at Alexanders. They play guitars, mandolin, mandocello, bouzouki and banjo as well as harmonica and melodeon. Most of all the Deportees sing - three voices finding unexpected harmonies in a mix of old and recent songs from both sides of the Atlantic. ‘You'll hear songs to join in with, songs to make you think, songs to move you and songs to get you moving’.

You will need to book in advance for the Music Trains to Chester. The package deal of music and food plus taxis to and from the station at Chester can be booked online at www.alexanderslive.com  (You can find and book the Music Trains under 'Tickets'). On jazz nights it’s bangers'n mash with sausages, peas and gravy. You'll need a train ticket as well. The music on the train is in the rear carriage. There is a collection on the way back for the band. (Music Train leaves Altrincham at 18:46 - return leaves Chester at 22:48).

Wednesday 19 April - Chester to Plumley and at the Golden Pheasant

Three bands - Time Bandits, Steerage Class and Full House are playing and singing on the Music Train from Chester and at the Golden Pheasant pub in Plumley. They are promoting Chester Folk Festival www.chesterfolk.org.uk   - to be held at Kelsall from Friday 26 May to Monday 29 May. Time Bandits play Anglo-European folk and renaissance dance music for concerts and ceilidhs. Full House play a mixture of traditional, contemporary and self-written material on guitar and octave mandola. Steerage Class (with Roy Clinging and Graham Bellinger) have a lively repertoire of sea shanties and folk songs.

There is no charge for the Music Train, though there is a collection on the way back for the band and you will need a train ticket which you can buy from the conductor – except at Chester where you need to buy your ticket from the station ticket office or the ticket machine. No need to book – just get into the rear carriage. (Music Train leaves Chester at 19:04 and return leaves Plumley for Chester at 22:08).

Wednesday 24 May – Chester to Plumley and at the Golden Pheasant

The Deportees are playing and singing on the Music Train from Chester to Plumley and at the Golden Pheasant. Graham Bellinger, Mick Green and Adrian Dear play guitars, mandolin, mandocello, bouzouki and banjo as well as harmonica and melodeon. Most of all the Deportees sing - three voices finding unexpected harmonies in a mix of old and recent songs from both sides of the Atlantic, some written by themselves, others by their heroes - like Woody Guthrie, Richard Thompson, Hank Williams, John Martyn, Bob Dylan, Guy Clark, Robert Johnson, Buddy Holly, Tom Waits and good old Trad Arr. ‘You'll hear songs to join in with, songs to make you think, songs to move you and songs to get you moving’.

Groups on Music Trains

Groups are welcome to join the Music Trains.

If you plan to bring a group of 10 or more people on a public Music Train from Chester to Plumley please contact me in advance about your plans so that we can agree a date or dates. That way we can avoid having too many groups on one evening as well as the many people who come as individuals or in smaller groups – who can just turn up at a station on the night. If you plan to bring a group on the Music Trains to Alexanders in Chester then just go ahead and book online with Alexanders. There is a maximum of 44 places available.

It might also be possible to arrange a group Music Train from Chester to Plumley or Mobberley by combining two groups, if between them they can bring 30 or more people.
We can arrange a group Music Train for 30 or more people – either in the daytime or in the evening - from Monday to Thursday inclusive - in either direction. Contact me to discuss a date and make the arrangements.
