Serious Disruption to Services

10th August 2015

There was serious disruption to services between Chester and Warrington on Monday 10th August 2015 due to a lorry carrying Propane being on fire on the M56 Motorway which led to a 1 mile exclusion zone being set up, which impinged on the railway between Chester and Warrington (Bank Quay).

The last trains allowed through were the 14.40 Llandudno to Manchester (1H90) - (15.56 at Helsby ) and the 14.50 Manchester (Picc) to Chester (1D39). The 16.04 Ellesmere Port to Warringon (2F17) was cancelled and the 15.08 Llandudno to Manchester (1H91) was diverted via Northwich and arrived 19 minutes late. The 15.50 Manchester to Llandudno was also diverted via Northwich.

All other trains were cancelled until the 20.50 Chester to Manchester Airport (21.01 at Helsby) and the 20.32 Manchester to Chester (21.43 at Helsby).

Freight trains were also diverted via other routes. Services then slowly returned to normal although late.
